Why I'm Running for Congress

Our country is at a critical point. Do we continue to pile up huge deficits by pursuing ill-conceived wars, diminish our international reputation by bending civil rights, refuse to provide an adequate safety net for our most vulnerable citizens, and head blindly toward environmental disaster? Or do we roll up our sleeves, face the troubles head on, and use all our ingenuity, creativity, and energy to solve them?

No more pretending that it's all going to have a happy ending. We have to act like grown ups now. We have to tell the truth to ourselves. And by doing so, we'll be able to tell the truth to our children and our children's children. "Yes, in 2008, the United States was in trouble. But we worked hard and we worked tigether, and now things are much better."

I want to help lead the team that finds solutions to our most serious problems. I believe I have the right background--with my legislative experience, my work as a problem-solving small businessperson, my leadership running a large national organization, and my decades-long practice of engaging in real conversations with other members of the North Haven community. You can count on me to tell you the truth, to work hard, and to keep the  needs of the people of Maine in mind at all times. And I hope I can count on you in return.
