Portland, ME (Sept. 10, 2007):
Chellie Pingree, candidate for Congress from Maine's First Congressional District, asks one question in response to General David Petraeus's and Ambassador Ryan Crocker's testimonies before the House:
"How does the "stay-the-course report" from General Petraeus differ from anything George Bush has been saying for five straight years? Only in Washington could the excuse making for failure rise to such unbelievable levels.
"We are spending $13 million an hour on this war - which means that we're not investing in taking care of our veterans, we're not investing in health care and we're not investing in reducing the high cost of education. "I said this war was wrong five years ago and its still wrong today. In my travels around Maine's First Congressional District, people continue to tell me that our troops should be brought home. The people of Maine can count on me to go to Washington and help make this happen."
