Chellie Pingree Exceeds Fundraising Goal for Third Quarter

Portland, ME (Oct. 15, 2007): Chellie Pingree, candidate for Congress in Maine's First Congressional District, announced today that she raised over $244,000 from more than 1,300 individuals in the third quarter of 2007, including approximately 500 who live in Maine. Those details are contained in a report to be filed today at the Federal Elections Commission (FEC).

This report covered period covers July 1 - September 30 and is expected to be available on the FEC website later today. Over two quarters of campaign activity, Pingree has raised $474,000 from nearly 2,000 individuals, including 873 from Maine, and 6 political action committees or organizations.

"These numbers reflect the broad base of support Chellie has in Maine and around the country," said Jackie Potter, Pingree for Congress Finance Chair. "Because of her experience as a leader in Maine, Chellie is a national leader on issues such as access to health care, prescription drug pricing and ending the war in Iraq. As the head of Common Cause, she took on issues central to our democracy such as media consolidation and counting every vote. All of that leadership translates into broad national support in fundraising."

If elected, Pingree would be the first Democratic woman from Maine to serve in Congress. This FEC report includes support from individual women all across the country and women's organizations, including the women who are members of EMILYs list, as well as the Women's Campaign Forum and the Feminist Majority PAC, all of whom have endorsed Chellie Pingree.

The campaign has also continued to build grassroots support and momentum on the Internet. Chellie Pingree's ability build support and fundraise online is demonstrated by the recognition her campaign received on Act Blue, a national online clearinghouse that many Democrats use to connect to various networks of supporters. In September, Pingree broke into the top five candidates in total amount raised and into the top five in number of donors. During July, August, and September, Pingree has continued to travel around the district, meeting with citizens in coffee shops, living rooms, union halls, and businesses. Pingree met with voters in over 25 towns as part ofher pledge to campaign in all 125 towns in the First District. Within the past few days, she has had breakfast with a group of women in Cumberland, talked to a large gathering at a house party in Kennebunkport, and today is the featured speaker at a Falmouth house party in support of Emerge Maine, an organization devoted to helping Democratic women get elected to office.
