Pingree called best candidate for environment, most prepared to bring change to Washington.
Group cites Pingree's record of protecting clean air and water and limiting influence of corporate special interests
PORTLAND, MAINE--National environmental group Friends of the Earth Action announced today that it has endorsed Chellie Pingree in the race to represent Maine's first district in Congress.
"Chellie Pingree is a proven leader with an impressive record on environmental issues," said Friends of the Earth Action President Brent Blackwelder. "We expect her to take on corporate polluters and bring much-needed change to Washington. Pingree is the best choice for Maine voters who want to breathe clean air, drink clean water and safeguard our planet's health."
Blackwelder said Pingree established strong environmental credentials during her time as an organic farmer, as majority leader of the Maine Senate, as the leader of national pro-democracy group Common Cause. He said her plans for the future are equally compelling. She has plans to create green jobs, fight global warming, and prevent toxins from being released into the environment.
"The climate crisis threatens our economic and national security as well as the health of the planet, and Chellie Pingree understands that. She has a plan to reduce global warming pollution and create green jobs in the process," said Michael Herz, Maine resident and board member of Friends of the Earth Action. "She also understands that politics as usual isn't working--that corporate special interests have taken over Washington and are blocking progress on important issues. She'll fight to change that and to bring the concerns of Mainers about what's happening to their unique environment to Congress."
